BEWET has bought two new kayaks (a Seda Swift and a PWS Avocet), which are available for rent. They are stored at Myron Sayles' home, and can be picked up by prior arrangement at 4826 N.E. 41st St., Seattle, WA [about a mile NE of Husky Stadium]. We currently have five single sea kayaks and two double sea kayaks,in the BEWET rental fleet. For rentals or other equipment information, call Myron Sayles at H/C: (206) 527-4878 after 6 pm. or send e-mail. Current rental rates are:
A PFD (ie, life jacket), paddle, spray skirt, travel skirt, bilge pump, sponge and paddle float are included with each kayak rental; float bags and sea socks are available on request. BEWET has two sets of center mounted portaging wheels, $2.50/weekend with a kayak rental, $5 otherwise. Additional safety equipment (i.e. first aid kit, radios, spare paddle, etc) are available to responsible trip leaders on a first come-first served basis. You must have a Yakima/Thule-type roof rack, use a set of foam roof top blocks available from Myron, or have an approved carrying system to transport the kayaks. The club has one set of guttered (for cars with the 'U'-shaped roof gutters) Yakima racks; please coordinate with Myron and check out the set of Yakima racks in advance to ensure they will fit the car you will be carrying the kayaks on. Important note: It is also YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to provide four braided nylon or Dacron [best] rope or 1" wide straps. At least two of the tie downs {ropes or straps} need to be 20' long, for the front and rear bumpers; the other two should be about 10 to 12' long, for tying the boats to the crossbars. No rubber bungee cords, please! Important note: You are EXPECTED to rinse the boat and equipment in fresh water before returning it to storage, and to promptly report any malfunction or breakage on the boat so it can be repaired before going out again. Boats or equipment returned in an unclean or in an un-rinsed condition (especially if they've been paddled in salt water) will incur a $10 per boat cleaning fee.
