White Water Kayaking Training Classes
Inflatable Kayak (IK) Instruction 2006
- BEWET will be offering an instructional class on how to safely manage inflatable kayaks on the river. We will briefly cover river navigation, river hydrology, capsize recovery, eddy turns/peel outs and other safety issues.
- The class will be offer somewhere in the Skykomish or Snoqualmie drainage area depending on river flows. Actual meeting place will be determined a few days prior to the class.
- The fee will be $35 (Tax Incl.) with checks made payable to BEWET. This will include rental fees for boat, paddle, PFD, helmet and instruction.
- We will be on a class II to III- river.
- Depending on where we meet, a $10 Vehicle Access Permit may need to be purchased in advance at any place that sells fishing licenses. If you already own a fishing license, you're covered already.
- As a participant in this class, you will be expected to sign a BEWET waiver.
- You will also be expected to do several full immersion wet exits so you will be swimming in cold river water. Wet suits are a bare minimum and booties or foot wear mandatory.
- We are planning our first class for DATE TBD evening ready to paddle at 6pm.
- Once participants demonstrate that they can safely navigate down river and recover from a capsize, they will then be OK to rent IK's for future river trips.
- If you are interested in attending or have any questions, e-mail me at marc.mahoney@bewet.org or phone at 253-906-6212.
- The club has five single IK's so let me know ASAP.
- If you are interested and can not attend this class, more classes will be offered with more notice in the future.
Hope to see you on the river,
Marc Mahoney
