Introduction to BEWET
(Boeing Employees Whitewater & Touring Club)

Charter - BEWET is a not-for-profit recreation club enjoyed, and voluntarily operated, by employees of the Boeing Company. Members participate for recreation and training in the use of whitewater rafts, whitewater kayaks, and sea kayaks. All expenses incurred so doing are shared and members receive no financial gain for participation.

Membership - Annual membership fees are $20 for a single membership and $25 for a family membership. Subject to space availability, a 'single' membership can enable a member to bring one guest on any club activity. Likewise a 'family' membership can enable a member to bring along his/her spouse, members of his/her immediate family and two non-family guests on any club event. However, the total number of guests that can participate in an event are limit so sign-up early! The two times during the year when guest limits are likely to reached are rafting trips on the Wild Wenatchee Weekend in June and the Lower Thompson river (in Canada) in August and September (but ask anyway, it doesn't hurt to try!). Per Boeing Recreation policy, Boeing employees and on-site contractors must be members to participate in club activities, all guests must be non-Boeing people. Membership Application (PDF)

Membership benefits are:

Rafting - $35 (Tax Incl.) per day trip! See the newsletter for rafting trip schedule. You can register and participate in any club rafting trip listed on the rafting schedule and bring guests. As a member, you are responsible for your family and guests including collection of fees, personal conduct and notifying your guests in the event of a cancellation. Want to learn to be a raft guide? Training classes are taught each spring. Family and guests may participate. The club has rafting equipment available for rental for non-club activities, provided the members are qualified to operate that equipment and accept responsibility for that equipment. Many guides in the club obtain permits to run extended trips on rivers throughout North America - spend a week rafting through some of the countries most beautiful and pristine wilderness - the ultimate rafting experience. As an added incentive, the trip fees for guide trainees are reduced to $15 for the 6th and subsequent trips. Rated Novice guides only pay $15 for trips.

Inflatable & Hardshell Whitewater Kayaking - The club has several inflatable kayaks available for rental by our members. Renters must show evidence of required skill and accept responsibility for that equipment. Kayakers may accompany raft trips. Whitewater kayaking training classes are taught each spring and summer.

Sea Kayaking - See the newsletter for sea kayaking trip schedule. The club has several sea kayaks available for rental by our members. Renters must show evidence of required skill and accept responsibility for that equipment. Sea kayaking training classes are taught each spring and summer.

To sign up for a club rafting or sea kayaking activity, look up the activity schedule in the newsletter or on our web site, find the trips you are interested, fill out a registration form and send the form to the respective trip leader. Our web site has an automated trip registration form, paper forms are published in the newsletter. The whitewater kayakers abide by a more impromptu schedule. To participate, contact one of the Whitewater Kayaking officers (listed in the newsletter).

Member Duties - You must be aware that we are a club. All organizational and skilled activities are conducted by volunteers who donate their time. As members, we share the benefits AND we share the work. All members are expected to contribute time and effort. If you are a rafting participant, you will be expected to participate in helping to assemble and disassemble equipment before and after each raft trip (guests are also expected to contribute). Raft work parties are conducted every Thursday to repair and prepare equipment for the next weekends activity. Raft participants will be expected to participate in two or three work parties each year. Whitewater and Sea kayaking have annual equipment repair parties. Additional participation is much appreciated. Some participate by being guides, others by serving on the BEWET board, others as trip leaders. Volunteers are rewarded - trip leaders raft for free, guides can also take one free guest.

Newsletter - Our monthly newsletter has been phased out in favor of the BEWET Blog. Members with e-mail addresses are added to a non-public distribution list. Schedules for all club activities are published on the website. Schedules for the year are e-published monthly starting with the February or March.
