Trip Planning for Next Year

Information on the meeting to plan trips for next year will be sent out shortly, but expect it to be on a weeknight in mid-November.

UPDATE: The trip planning meeting will be Wednesday, November 16th 6:30-8:30ish at Boeing Building 2-22.

What does the trip planning process look like?

  • Suggesting rivers for the club to run next year
  • Determining dates to run those rivers. Some rivers are so popular and fun that we run them multiple weekends in a row.
  • Matching volunteers that are willing to lead a trip with the rivers they are interested in

You do NOT need to have previous experience leading a trip, nor be a board member or guide. We have a trip leader handbook that tells you most of what you need to know, and usually try to assign new trip leaders a more experienced co-trip leader so that you can tag team. What does it mean to be a trip leader? Examples of duties include:

  • Reviewing last year's trip packet and updating any information that is not current
  • Making sure a campsite is reserved and the info is added to the trip packet
  • Sending out a few emails announcing the trip and posting flyers to generate interest
  • Answering questions from potential passengers (usually via email)
  • Recruiting guides from our volunteer pool based on the number of passengers
  • Being the point-of-contact during the weekend that the trip runs
  • Doing boat assignments with the help of senior guides and the guide trainers

This is a GREAT opportunity for regular club members to get involved! If you can't make the meeting but want to be involved, let us know.
